Each accessory is made of different materials and designs which makes them require different treatment. Below we have compiled the proper steps to clean and store various popular patio accessories for your reference.

How to Store Patio Accessories in Winter

Storing patio umbrella

As one of the most fragile patio accessories, you can’t leave a patio umbrella outside in the freezing season.

  • Bring your umbrella into a shady area, and remove any debris and bugs in an open position.
  • Mix mild detergent and warm water, then dip a soft microfiber cloth. Rub the surface of your patio umbrella inside and outside to clean up any stains and grimes. Rinse it with clean water and let it dry completely before folding it up.
  • Apply the lubricant to the joints, switches, and locks. Wrap the umbrella in a tarp or plastic drop cloth.

Storing patio fireplace

Of course, this step is only applicable to you who have a portable fireplace on your patio.

  • Disconnect your portable fireplace from any propane tanks and remove it carefully.
  • Disassemble every part of the fireplace and clean each piece carefully. You can simply mic dish soap and hot water for the cleaning solution. Make sure that you remove any ash and soot thoroughly.
  • As pieces of patio firepit can be flammable, you really need to be extra careful to store them. Always separate the highly flammable parts from the inflammable ones. You might also want to do some research on how to properly store flammable parts if necessary.

  • Once it’s completely dry, roll it up and store it in a sealed plastic bag.

If you decorate your outdoor living space with curtains, make sure that you store them well so you can use them again when the summer comes.

  • Soak the curtains in soapy water (mix mild detergent and warm water) to clean up the stains and dirt.
  • Air-dry the curtains by hanging them around.
  • Fold the curtains and store them in an airtight container.

Snow weight can seriously damage the cloth and rope of your hammocks. It’s always necessary to store the hammock inside in the winter.
