How to Clean Vinyl Flooring

Dry clean first

Before wetting your vinyl flooring, always dry mop or vacuum it to clean up the dust, dirt, and hair. Don’t skip the tricky spots like the corners of the room, under the furniture, and along baseboards.

Wet clean the floor

To wet clean your vinyl flooring, you can use apple cider vinegar or white vinegar. Those kitchen supplies contain acidity which is good to clean up the grime and dirt without leaving any soap residue.

Here’s what you can do:

  1. Prepare a plastic bucket, mix a gallon of hot water and a cup of apple cider vinegar.
  2. Damp the mop and start cleaning the vinyl flooring (which has been dry-cleaned before).
  3. Rinse the floor with hot water for several times.

If you find some difficult stains, you might need to add a few drops of dish soap to the mixture of cedar vinegar and hot water. White vinegar is also a better option if you prefer to disinfect the floor as you clean it.

Further, you can add a few drops of baby oil to make your vinyl flooring look shiny.

Removing stubborn stains

The wet-cleaning step above may not be really enough if there are a lot of difficult stains or even scuffs on your wood flooring. No worries, you still can handle the problem all by yourself.

  • Food stains – Mix baking soda and water until you get a paste consistency. Rub the stains with a soft microfiber cloth or soft nylon-bristle brush. This step is good to remove stains like tomato sauce, mustard, ketchup, and fruit juice.
  • Stubborn scuffs – Rub the affected area with jojoba oil and a towel until you see the scuffs slowly disappear. Rinse the residue of the oil with a mixture of vinegar and water.
